Painting with yolk...

After reading one of my favorite blogs, Confessions of a Pioneer Woman/Pioneer Woman Cooks, I decided I needed to try and make these cookies.

The cookies reminded me of stained glass which intrigued my raccoon sensibilities (the love of all things colorful and shiny). After getting the dough made and refrigerated I had to run a few errands. I made my second trip to Wal-Mart today and both times were quite the adventure filled with obstacles called rabid Christmas shoppers.

Did you know that it took me like 20 minutes to find friggin' cookie cutters? When I finally found those bad boys they were the dregs. I saw listings for a six pack of cookie cutters in several places but no six pack of cutters to be seen any where. Oh well. I bought some stars, a gingerbread man, and a candy cane cookie cutters. Good enough.

I had invited my little cousin to come over and paint some cookies with me. You can see the results in the photos. I definitely need a class on how to pipe on icing.

It was pretty fun to paint with egg yolk mixed with food dye. It will probably be a while before I feel like making these cookies again. It was a lot of work and plus I wasn't too into the actual cookie mix. Not really my type of cookie recipe. I think I'll find another sugar cookie recipe that I like and will keep the painting with a dyed egg glaze in my bag of tricks.

Well you did way better than me. I saw that she had posted that recipe and was like"uh definitely not enough energy for that." Last year I tried to make cut-out kinds of cookies, but I'm not sure why. I learned long ago that rolled out dough was not my cup of sugar. I am a drop cookies girl in my heart (i.e. lazy).

the cookies were okay...but it's definitely not my favorite cookie recipe.

the flavor is pretty bland...you can taste the lemon zest in it...and the sweetness comes from the icing that you make to pipe onto the cookies.

i guess it is a good cookie flavor if you aren't into very sweet cookies.
